Peas and Pewps. November 6, 2011

I have simply been itching to feed my son his first solids. At a mere 3 months old, I became anxious and over zealous about the idea, and began begging my husband if I could give him, "Just one bite!" I was very gently let down and told to give it just another month, another 3 weeks, another 2 weeks, another week, and another few days until finally, Dominic turned four months old! Let the mommy go crazy! We bought a Bumbo seat and tray, spoons, and six kinds of foods - three veggies and three fruits. At dinnertime on Friday night, we sat our precious little man in his bumbo seat at the dinner table to eat with the big kids and I got everything ready to go- purple spoons that daddy purchased and all! The first bites were wonderful and sweet and everything I could have expected them to be and more. He loved these peas and he wanted more, more more! We didn't give him much, of course, but one may have assumed otherwise given the mess he was able to make with about 3 bites or so.

It was absolutely precious! He smiled when he first tasted them, and was opening his mouth for more throughout. Success! The boy enjoys his peas. Good boy.
So the next night, Saturday, last night... we took him to dinner with us and my sister, and we brought along the beloved peas. He sat next to daddy and was enjoying his peas dinner very much so, and ate more than we would have expected him to, with much more finesse than would be expected of a second time solids eater. He opened up wide, chomped down on the spoon, and swallowed what was in his mouth. When he was ready for more, he'd yell at his daddy and here would come the train, or airplane, or spoon. Whatever parents are calling it these days.

On Friday morning, Dominic had his four month checkup and the doctor said that since he's doing so great, she advised to wait until six months to give him solids. Daddy informed her of our intentions, so she happily explained of the things we could expect. Word of advice: Listen. And listen good. To what the doctor says. In some cases, he or she may be incredibly and psychicly correct, as she was in this case. We should have waited. I suppose his love for the peas aggravated the situation, but hey. We should have waited!

So, he's been sleeping great for the past few days, like 8 hours great. Which is a great change from him waking up every two hours the past couple of weeks, as if he's just a newborn all over again. Well, last night those peas turned into one, solid little pewp. A little dewdew that was brewing up in my son's tiny little bowels all night and keeping him up- which in turn, kept me up. Alas, peas no more. We will be waiting again until we hit the six month mark, and we'll try again then.

A few other milestones the tiny man has hit lately. He's finally broken 12 pounds and 2 feet! His four month appointment yielded his weight at 12.9 pounds and his height at 24.5 inches. He's still wearing three month old clothes, and they still fit him perfectly. He rolled over Saturday November 5th, from his belly to his back. Unfortunately, future attempts to get it on camera were unsuccessful. We'll try again. :) He's also been grabbing his toys that are in grabbing vicinity and has been playing with them.

I never knew how fun it could be to facilitate the growth of such a tiny person. It's the best!

Dominic's first time sitting in his Bumbo seat.

Halfway rolled on his own from belly....

To back! Success!!!

His favorite toy up to this point.

Not sure about the Monkey, but he's still working on it. :)
